Rajapakse's tropico

To commerate mahinda's crooked victory at the polls, ill be creating a tropico game with a prez in his name.

I'll name the island 'sri lanka' and try to mimic rajapakse's actions.

Guess it'd a fun means to simulating possible outcomes for the republic.

Banking on a post-election boom

Sent some money across to sri lanka for my bro to invest in stocks.

Moneygram was a far cheaper option to the telegraphic transfer I used last time. A third cheaper to be precise.

The elections are being held today, either way it swings, the market should improve.

I hope to gain a return of atleast 20% over an year. Perhaps higher, should a post-election boom really take off.

To stay or to move..

I'm having doubts of the long term sustainability of working & living in singapore.

Considering that I have dual nationality: british & sri lankan.

A move to the EU is a possibility. Would be a lot more comfortable compared to high stress life in singapore.

Would like to take a 3 mth break to work on a ship to detox first.

Network drive via ubuntu

My 1TB drive is on my ubuntu pc, while my windows pc is rapidly running out of drive space.

Thumbdrive transfers are a pain for busy ppl like ourselves. So why not use the gigabit home lan for this job?

Found some websites on the topic...

Proximity to the mrt

Another pt of concern for those expats among us without cars.

Buses can be unreliable for commutes above 20 mins so the mrt remains the dominate means of public transport for the average salaryman, including me.

Yes its costlier, but in the long run its worth it.

Woes of media IT

I'm currently having doubts abt the media sector in which I currently operate. I suspect it stems from a deep rooted aspiration to be a software engineer at a proper IT company.

I'm a web developer, altho it may sound very hip in this dot com era we live in, the sector I serve is anything but hip.

Its not that web technologies suck, they can be pretty powerful, but media companies rarely care for the development of the computing art.

So unless u want to jump to to biz side of things, your career is gonna vegetate.

I better jump while I'm still able to..

Mobile app development for n00bs

Torn between two choices: iphone or andriod app development.

Iphone

Pros: large market
Cons: app store,mac-only dev tools

Andriod
Pros: open source, win-dev tools,java
Cons: small market,multiple variants

Andriod is a cheaper platform to develop for. Whereas iphone apps require a mac. Cheap mac minis available for about S$400.

I'll probably start with andriod as I've got a craving for java & I'm feeling like a cheapskate :p

Location

Hmm the east-west line is the preffered mrt line to live next to, given our respective workplaces.

My experience on the red-line have never been satisfactory and most of my points-of-interest lie on the green-line (a.k.a EW line)

At least we've nailed that down..
